Official Cosmetics Category – LOTRO Forum

Fellow fashionista’s of Middle Earth!

I just wanted to quickly let everybody know that there is now an official cosmetics section on the forums for us to visit, if ever we are struggling to hunt down a cosmetic piece we can ask for a little help.

I have felt stuck recently when seeing a screenshot of something I wanted and not knowing the piece, and felt all I would receive in general chat is a bunch of raised eyebrows if I asked. But this is also significant because it means everyone can share their outfits on the forums in a dedicated place where people can find them easily, outfitting for everyone!

All hail Sapience for this wonderful addition, and kudos for acknowledging lotro’s superior cosmetics system. Thank you!

LotroSavvy Update 11/10/12

*gasp* I am still alive everyone! ^.^

I just wanted to post a quick update to any who followed my blog to let you know what has been going on and why there hasn’t been a post in what feels like forever. Firstly, thank you for keeping track and reading this, and secondly I apologize massively for the lack of updates.

I created this blog with the intention to do this as a hobby only and said right from the start that if I wanted to take a break from it I hoped I would be able to easily, as with mmo’s there always is periods of slowness within the game where you don’t feel motivated, and work was stealing any motivation or energy for anything at all for a long time and the abandonment of the blog was quite sudden.

I have been playing the game a lot since my last update, and after levelling my Guardian to 75 I started on my Lore-Master and finally got another 75 to add into the mix, but apart from deeding, preparing for Rohan and raiding, I haven’t found much time for outfitting. I have been playing and loving the Rohan beta’s and very much hope come launch I will be back in the game with new cosmetics to play with, but until then thank you for the patience if you’re still visiting this blog.

This update was spurred on by the fact my kin was running a Nostalgia week and I won the BG Lore-Master shoulder guards I had wanted for years and decided to parade them about while giving an update as to my whereabouts; which I have been meaning to get done a lot earlier than this.

Happy hunting everyone! <3 See you in Rohan!

Magnificent Maiden

I finally found some time to start some new content with Update 6 (having been working my butt off the past 4 weeks with a new job) and upon getting stuck into the storyline of the Rohirrim, Fishermen and Elves and their wariness of each other I began to feel my Human Captain never really noticed this until now, having maxed kindred with the Galadhrim I headed to Lothlórien and got Screenshot happy (which is extremely difficult given the glow/aura around everything in Lothlórien). Just out of pure boredom I decided to make a Warden and check out the new changes and found that the Westfold Cloak that came with the Pre-order had changed!

I previously hated this cloak and wished it was white like the rest of the outfit and couldn’t understand why just the cloak was beige and every other Westfold piece was white – including the horse blanket. Happy with this change I immediately added it to my white dress and circlet, added in the shoulders and fell in love. My captain – now looking more like a ranger had a twist to it, standing in Lothlórien admiring the views she tried to gain the respect of the elves of this place and having the best of both worlds could look regal, but also join the Horse Lords in their quest to Rohan. If you already have this cloak in the Wardrobe it may show up the old colour (it did with me) but upon taking it out and putting it back in you can get the new crisp white cosmetic. You can type /reclaim to get all the Pre-order items back if you find you removed the item after putting it in the wardrobe.

I have noticed some fantastic new cosmetics with the first couple of quests I have done by the river in the new area (and noticed it’s a lot of raid/instance gear with changed dye options) which is a happy compromise for those who could not obtain it due to not having the right class or ability to raid, cosmetics for all!

As of next week my work schedule is going to calm down and as I adjust to juggling work and gaming I’m hoping I can find a balance which will not make me neglect my hobby of standing in front of the Lotro wardrobe. Keep checking back!

Happy hunting.

Cryptic Crook

Finally! This update has taken me weeks :P Mostly because it was one of those outfits where I kept changing little things and I think no amount of changing pieces was going to impress me it was a pain, but I settled on the pieces in the end. I also tried Fraps for the screenshots but I had so many problems with file types and images showing up too dark (my PSP program I use to lighten them generally lightens images anyway; so when I save thinking they’re fine, they’re actually not = stress).

When I was levelling my captain and I entered this BEAUFITUL solo instance I knew it would be a long time until I had another character here, and I wanted to capture the moment with screenshots, sparking my idea for a tomb robber outfit. This gave me the perfect opportunity to head to the buried treasure event and grab me a sack of gold, although a little awkward to dye as it doesn’t dye any dark colours >:-[.

The majority of the pieces are Isengard instance drops so it may seem a little strange to then use Radiant Armour for the chest piece but a lot of the Isengard armour has clipping issues, and the chest piece is one of my favourites in any colour and I couldn't resist it in Crimson.

This outfit was actually just a compilation of all my favourite pieces at the moment, and they all work for an outfit so i'm super happy. I probably should have added some of the new emotes to it as well but I actually don't have any of them yet! So much to do :P

This will be my last update for a couple of weeks now as I am visiting family for a while for my Dad's wedding, as well as starting my new job I want my focus to be on my real life for the moment as you may have read in my previous update post.

Steed & Rider – Frosted Fancy

Firstly I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas! Mine thankfully wasn’t very hectic and was brilliant, with one of my favourite gifts being a new second age bow for my hunter thanks to a lovely kinnie who I am now indebted to. After a day packed full of movies, chocolates and cats sleeping all over the wrapping paper I found some time to put together an outfit to match the new Yule Festival mount I adore.

This is my first year playing around with the new Frostbluff area in lotro as I missed it last year so I was having the time of my life gathering all the cosmetics, and I have many more to go yet (which I will have to acquire on an alt because wow…I seriously have no room on my main anymore – I’m due for a couple of vault upgrades). I love the new festival mount and the obvious part of outfitting to match this horse was the cloak (let’s be honest it was a given). Since the extravagant dress and hat were new items to me having missed the area last year i’ve been waiting for it to appear ever since so I could show it off, and I’m very happy with it.

In the weeks to come I will be a little slow updating due to a busy schedule and a boat load of new books and games I have to somehow find the time for.

Resolute Rangers

After levelling my second level 75 a few weeks back with a friend, we decided to venture off and explore the area around Tâl Methedras Gate. When you first enter this instance-like zone by the lake through the door and head straight up the mountain, veering right, you come across a wonderful bunch of snowmen and igloo’s. I loved this area; it reminded me of the Yule festival zone. However upon completing the books I never went back, until tonight…

I thought the perfect place to showcase these two outfits would be that area full of snowmen, and thought it would be nice and cheerful for Christmas. However upon finding it I was horrified to find the snowmen’s heads had fallen off and the igloo’s were smashed and broken! I decided tonights character poses would show my disappointment as the books must have changed this area when I completed it, and it’s a nice little Easter egg I’m glad I found that changes areas along with the books, (However it doesn’t change the fact that you destroyed all the snowmen, Turbine!) and although my Rune-Keeper doesn’t have skills that are anything like a ranger, she can sure strike a thunderous look can’t she?

From the new update Book 5 is in my opinion a little short and disappointing however the cosmetics make it all worth it! Within one minute you can receive all six pieces of a cosmetic outfit from starting book five at the Rohirrim Scout-Camp, and there are TWO cosmetic outfits to choose from!

All pieces are default colours.

P.S. It was unfortunately night in Middle-Earth and I apologise for the purple tint the pictures seem to have now, but I wanted to update before I leave for a few days tomorrow and had no choice. I will update these in the future and split them into two seperate outfits and it will have nothing at all to do with snow. As always comments help me improve and see what i’m doing right and wrong <3

Arctic Adversary

This will probably be my last update before Christmas and my last winter themed outfit, due to being busy with visiting family and events for my birthday it will be difficult to find some time for Lotro. With the update out I haven’t even had time to immerse myself in all the new wonderful instances and cosmetics available! But as soon as I can I will definitely be posting outfits using the new items.

Cosmetic Lotro, Lotro Stylist and Lotro Fashion are also joining forces to host a Christmas outfit contest! I’m looking forward to this one as after making a bunch of outfits myself it can be difficult when you find a piece you want to showcase, the problem being you have to find all the other pieces then to match it; and it can take five minutes or five hours. The piece used on the chest here is a prime example of taking hours.

The chest piece I came across while questing in Forochel, I believe all three quest rewards were fantastic and I struggled to decide which to go for, but I finally decided this one caught my eye so much and I am pleased with the result, it’s a gorgeous piece of armour. The quest was outside of Suri-Kyla, the quest where you have to escort the Elk to safety from around the corner  :-]

Head: Ajokoira Hat [Ceremonial version at Lotro Store or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~Red~

Shoulders: Yule Scarf [Yule Festival] ~Grey~

Chest: Thick Elk-Hide Waistcoat [Quest Reward – Forochel or T4 crafted - Tailor] ~Crimson or Red both work great so whichever is cheaper to craft/buy~

Hands: Ajokoira Gloves [Store item or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~White~

Legs: Ajokoira Leggings [Ceremonial version at Lotro Store or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~White~

Feet: Combat Boots of Théodred [Crafted t7 – Tailor] ~Grey

If i don’t update before Christmas, have a fantastic one and an even better New Years :P As always comments are greatly appreciated <3

Glacial Glee

Four images for you today, because it’s just a quick update and not much text, plus I couldn’t decide between the last two on which to keep so i’m showing them both! No shoulder piece included in this one because I searched for a good hour or two for the right piece, whether white or green nothing seemed to fit or they had some odd colours on that weren’t included in the rest of the outfit, and there were a lot of clipping issues with it being a hobbit. This outfit also works very well in Crimson/Red so there are two options for you if you’re not a fan of green.

Back: Bearskin Winter Cloak [Yule Festival Reward] ~Rivendell Green~

Chest: Burnished Hauberk of the Dunland Warlord [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Rivendell Green~

Hands: Leather Gauntlet’s [Medium Armour smith – Esteldin] ~White~

Feet: Ajokoira Shoes [Forochel crafted or Lotro Store] ~Rivendell Green

Frozen Flurry

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow,
And we, we were children once again.
~Bill Morgan, Jr.

Ah, December, how I love you! December is definitely my time of year, not only does it hold Christmas and that wonderful festive friendly spirit but it’s the time of year for me also because my birthday also falls in December. Nothing beats a lovely winter night with a hot water bottle, a giant mug of sugary tea and movies (in my case it was Star Wars).

I wanted nothing more than to create a winter outfit for you all…at 4am, and I’m extremely pleased with how this one turned out, I love it! (I had a blast taking these screenshots since I am in love with Forochel) I also spotted a lovely piece from a quest reward in Forochel which I will be using soon but it didn’t match the style I was going for so much, so be expecting another one or two winter-esque outfits before the month is up. This is currently used on my Hunter without the cloak and I think this is my favourite outfit of all time!

Shoulders: Westfold Assault Shoulder Pads [Crafted T7 – Tailor] ~Violet~

Back: Ceremonial Bear-Fur Cloak [Reputation Vendor – Forochel] ~Default/Washed~

Hands: Officer’s Gloves [Crafted T6 - Metalsmith] ~Violet~

Legs: Elven Leather Leggings [Medium Armoursmith – Rivendell] ~Violet~

As always, let me know your opinions with a comment it’s greatly appreciated and I welcome any feedback or suggestions for future posts.

Burgundy Belle

I struggled to decide which wonderful outfit I would show today, and who would model it! I had planned to finally show off some Hobbits but upon finding this outfit on my Lore-Master that I hadn’t visited for a while, I tried it on a Hobbit and it didn’t work as well; because the shoulders were a little squashed and changed shape, so my Lore-Master it was!

If, like me, you’re a VIP member and get points every month and never know what to do with them other than spend them on cosmetics, then this one should be suitable since every item is a store piece.

I also had just commented on Lotro Fashion that I loved the use of these shoulder guards and I believe they fit for so many outfits, and then I see that the outfit I want to showcase is going to use them as well, definitely a worthwhile investment and I’m sure I will use them again many times.

There is still the decision of ‘to hood or not to hood’ with the Cloak and Hood possibly clipping depending on the position of your character, you may think it works or you may choose to have the outfit as is, because along with the style of cloak that came about with the book quest in Lothlorien at first, it can be difficult to find the right head item/helm with it. I personally prefer to go for the non-hooded cloaks and add my own Traveller’s hood, so I can simply hide the helm when I choose and have the illusion of the cloaks hood being down, rather than having to hide the entire cloak to be able to see a hairstyle if you choose the hooded version from the store.

Head:  Traveller’s Hood [Store item] ~Burgundy~

Shoulders: Bladecatcher Pauldron’s [Store item] ~Burgundy~

Back: Cloak of the Mallorn [Store item] ~Burgundy~

Chest: Elegant Formal Dress [Store item] ~Burgundy~
