Falcon’s Folly

I’m back with an update! It’s a miracle :-P

I first must apologise once again for the long time between updates, I’ve had so many cosmetics to play with lately (rift, helegrod, all my guardian class cosmetics while I levelled) that I’ve just been enjoying the full outfits of many of these pieces rather than mixing and matching to create something unique. I now have five level 75 characters and have had a blast reaching cap on my guard since she was left at 46 for two years and I never thought she would see the rest of middle-earth again!

This outfit sort of fell into my lap, I was only putting together all of my favourites from the Helegrod pieces which were advertised in the store recently (of which I had to get some via store and some via the skirmish barter due to lack of medallions and marks having spent them on the Rift sets the previous week!).

I had never actually noticed the boots before until I took some time to look at them when they were advertised in the store and I immediately had to use them somehow, and this outfit looks pretty nice in red/crimson too, but then again doesn’t everything? I use far too much of that stuff so I went with a dye I’d never used before because it always seemed too bold/rich for me, which is why I only used it in small doses here.

The area I took these screenshots in was Tal Methedras because I love the storyline of this place, and the winter feel to the outfit meant I would fit right in. Unfortunately it was night when I showed up to take screenshots but the silhouetted background was beautiful and I wanted to try and make it work, bringing this feel of ‘I’ll get you falcon clan..and your pretty little wolves too”…

I might try taking these screenshots again when it’s a little lighter in middle-earth but for now I wanted to hurry this update up, I’d left it too long already. Also, the images are appearing a little smaller than i’d like, I may still be on the lookout for a better theme which gives me even bigger screenshots. Don’t forget to click the images for the better details/larger screenshots on my blog.

Vibrant Variations

For the entire week where I live by the beach, it has been sunshine and crystal blue skies. All of that typical rainy British weather has disappeared and everywhere I go there are people enjoying the sun and I couldn’t help but notice they had made the most of it and pulled out their summer wardrobes early.

This meant one thing: colour! It seems to have seaped into my Lotro as well, and my Hunter and Lore-master have now become very colourful as a result. I’ve once again been using my trusty Radiant Armour chest piece that works wonderfully in every colour, and by the end of this post I hope you love this top just as much as me.

Also, I watched Puss In Boots yesterday and have been a little obsessed with the plumed hats ever since!

I understand that pieces used in many outfits on cosmetics blogs can be hard to acquire if it’s a quest item or reputation item, this second outfit I have deliberately kept basic without the reputation Lossoth gloves and quest Leggings, to show you that you can still make anything work even if they are the basic items from Bree.

Observing Orthanc

When I first heard of being able to buy Ettenmoors barter tokens and trade them in for armour for any class to use as cosmetics, I was over the moon. However upon spending a lot of gold and missing one more spirit stone the next update for the game arrived and this feature was removed. The one and only piece I REALLY wanted with a passion was the helm used for Minstrels, Lore-Masters and Rune-Keepers on the secondary armour set. While questing aside the Great River in Update 6 a lot of us quickly realised a lot of armour pieces have old armour sets for specific classes, or old Moria 50+ crafted sets with a little twist. This is a happy compromise I believe and the Helm I used here I am never going to tire of it, it’s by far my favourite cosmetic item ever and the more it is used in simple outfits the better as a lot of shoulder guards and cloaks will cover it up.

I personally preferred the outfit without the Shoulder piece but there was a part of me thinking ‘But that means I only have 2 pieces, have I gotten that lazy?’ So the screenshots below show the shoulder guards I liked with this the best, and it can be up to you whether you use them.

I finally got the helm I always wanted!

Cryptic Crook

Finally! This update has taken me weeks :P Mostly because it was one of those outfits where I kept changing little things and I think no amount of changing pieces was going to impress me it was a pain, but I settled on the pieces in the end. I also tried Fraps for the screenshots but I had so many problems with file types and images showing up too dark (my PSP program I use to lighten them generally lightens images anyway; so when I save thinking they’re fine, they’re actually not = stress).

When I was levelling my captain and I entered this BEAUFITUL solo instance I knew it would be a long time until I had another character here, and I wanted to capture the moment with screenshots, sparking my idea for a tomb robber outfit. This gave me the perfect opportunity to head to the buried treasure event and grab me a sack of gold, although a little awkward to dye as it doesn’t dye any dark colours >:-[.

The majority of the pieces are Isengard instance drops so it may seem a little strange to then use Radiant Armour for the chest piece but a lot of the Isengard armour has clipping issues, and the chest piece is one of my favourites in any colour and I couldn’t resist it in Crimson.

This outfit was actually just a compilation of all my favourite pieces at the moment, and they all work for an outfit so i’m super happy. I probably should have added some of the new emotes to it as well but I actually don’t have any of them yet! So much to do :P

This will be my last update for a couple of weeks now as I am visiting family for a while for my Dad’s wedding, as well as starting my new job I want my focus to be on my real life for the moment as you may have read in my previous update post.

Lumberjack Lass

Today’s update came about whilst trying to find an outfit to go with the chest piece, and proving very difficult I challenge people to try and do the same and let me know the results because it took me a long time to figure out what to do with this chest piece. I am very pleased with how this outfit turned out and the casual explorer feel to it, as it’s rare I do that sort of thing but I’ve found myself using this outfit often lately.  I had to wait until payday to be able to grab the backpack to complete the outfit so if you do not want to spend store points on the backpack then the Outfitter in Bree does a backpack without the axe and it will work fine also.

Head: Padded Hat of the Dunland Soothsayer [Quest reward – Dunland] ~White~

Shoulders: Padded Mantle of the Dunland Soothsayer [Quest reward – Dunland] ~Umber~

Notes: This was going to be the outfit I featured a male character model however I realised I would have to get through the intro to be able to get to the vault and I simply didn’t have the time as I have to prep for an interview today, but this outfit will also work on males pretty well for a Lumberjack lad!

Stylish Sage

Welcome to the new Lotro Savvy! I finally had a play around with the layouts and decided to give this one a try and I’m pretty happy with it. Categories have been redone and I went through every post and made sure they were up to date with their categories. When I can be bothered to play around on Paintshop Pro or Photoshop I’ll get around to making a better site header also, but for now, onto the outfits!

I’ve levelled a Lore-Master to 30 THREE times now because I always remade her, unsure whether I liked her as an elf or a human or my levelling companion vanished leaving my squishy character to suffer, but finally I’m back levelling with someone again and can safely stay at a distance while I enjoy the unique playing style of my Lore-Master, and i’m having an absolute blast. I wanted to find an outfit for my Lore-Master that included a wizards hat, but something that didn’t look too ridiculous (and we all know how ridiculous Lotro hats are sometimes), so the search was on. I came across this Pointed Hat of Fate in my Minstrels Vault the other day and I’m aware there are a lot of ‘of fate’ world drops and I’m assuming this is also one of them, however if you do know exactly where this comes from please let me know and I shall edit it, as I may have picked it up questing and not remembered. I believe the same cosmetics can be acquired via Padded level 15/17 amour from a Tailor or 20/23 according to Darzil’s Lotro Crafting Guide.

I really love this robe and don’t think a cloak suits it all too well and didn’t want anything covering it up, but if you want a cloak then I might suggest the simple plain hoodless cloak in black from the Bree Outfitter, or a backpack of some sort might look pretty awesome too. Based on the fact I didn’t want armour covering up the robe too much and its wonderful detail I chose gloves and shoulder guards that are only a small difference and aren’t even needed too much.

Head: Pointed Hat of Fate [World Drop] ~Black~

Shoulders: Embroidered Mantle of the Dunland Healer [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Grey~

Chest: Tattered Robe of the Dunland Sage [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Ranger Green~

Hands: Gloves of Fleetness [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Black~

Feet: Scout’s Weathered Leather Boots [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Grey~

Notes: I received a request to make a Gandalf-esque outfit which will be a fun challenge for me to do soon!

Fanciful Frocks

I thought it was about time I levelled my Minstrel past 65 instead of letting her collect dust, and this blogs name wouldn’t exist without my lovable Minstrel Savanah and…pirates apparently, so I thought I would get more hobbit love onto this forum by posting a few simple dresses and cloaks I love, and due to how simple they really are as you cannot equip gloves and booties with them I figured I’d treat you all and post three outfits in one post! I also really enjoy the outfit with the red cloak for my Human Lore-Master; it feels like something from Red Riding Hood.

Chest: Exquisite Short-Sleeved Dress [Anniversary/Festival Gift box] ~Black~

Notes: These dresses can probably be grabbed from the Auction House as well!

Also, for now categories will stay as they are but as I slowly add more human/elf/hobbit combo’s (unsure about Dwarf for the moment, I seriously have to buy more Character Slots and that means I have to wait for the freebie points every month [Lifetime sub]), but I will eventually get around to having categories per race and also for males when I get more slots! Also thinking about a new theme, something larger in width to show off my larger screenshots better and not having to click to enlarge like on this poste.

I’m very happy with these outfits and screenshots so please don’t forget to leave a comment if something caught your eye, I appreciate any feedback negative or positive to improve.

Beige Bellona

In my previous post I commented that it was a challenge to acquire white cosmetics pieces from using white dye, and at the time I was typing that I had in mind the Westernesse leggings which instead turn a biscuit colour. This brought forward a new idea for a cosmetic outfit and a challenge to see what other items I could get to turn into this unique colour, and then I remembered the Cloak of the Dove, which in its default colour also is the same. I combined this colour with the umber that was on the leggings also and in no time had these rich looking colours together!

Shoulders: Westernesse Shoulder Guards [Crafted t5 – both Tailor and Metalsmith versions available] ~Umber~

Back: Cloak of the Dove [Lotro Store] ~Default/Washed~

Chest: Dwarf-make Radiant Armour [Crafted t4 – Tailor] ~Umber~

Hands: Gauntlets of Fém [Quest reward – Aughaire/Angmar] ~Washed/White~

Legs: Westernesse Protector’s Leggings [Crafted t5 – Tailor] ~Washed/White~

Feet: Fine Grey Company Boots [Quest Reward Vol lll, Bk5] ~Umber~

Notes: The alliteration’s are becoming much harder, after looking through a hundred words beginning with ‘B’ I came across Bellona, the Goddess of War – I thought it very fitting.

Arctic Adversary

This will probably be my last update before Christmas and my last winter themed outfit, due to being busy with visiting family and events for my birthday it will be difficult to find some time for Lotro. With the update out I haven’t even had time to immerse myself in all the new wonderful instances and cosmetics available! But as soon as I can I will definitely be posting outfits using the new items.

Cosmetic Lotro, Lotro Stylist and Lotro Fashion are also joining forces to host a Christmas outfit contest! I’m looking forward to this one as after making a bunch of outfits myself it can be difficult when you find a piece you want to showcase, the problem being you have to find all the other pieces then to match it; and it can take five minutes or five hours. The piece used on the chest here is a prime example of taking hours.

The chest piece I came across while questing in Forochel, I believe all three quest rewards were fantastic and I struggled to decide which to go for, but I finally decided this one caught my eye so much and I am pleased with the result, it’s a gorgeous piece of armour. The quest was outside of Suri-Kyla, the quest where you have to escort the Elk to safety from around the corner  :-]

Head: Ajokoira Hat [Ceremonial version at Lotro Store or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~Red~

Shoulders: Yule Scarf [Yule Festival] ~Grey~

Chest: Thick Elk-Hide Waistcoat [Quest Reward – Forochel or T4 crafted – Tailor] ~Crimson or Red both work great so whichever is cheaper to craft/buy~

Hands: Ajokoira Gloves [Store item or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~White~

Legs: Ajokoira Leggings [Ceremonial version at Lotro Store or crafted reputation piece – Lossoth] ~White~

Feet: Combat Boots of Théodred [Crafted t7 – Tailor] ~Grey

If i don’t update before Christmas, have a fantastic one and an even better New Years :P As always comments are greatly appreciated <3

Glacial Glee

Four images for you today, because it’s just a quick update and not much text, plus I couldn’t decide between the last two on which to keep so i’m showing them both! No shoulder piece included in this one because I searched for a good hour or two for the right piece, whether white or green nothing seemed to fit or they had some odd colours on that weren’t included in the rest of the outfit, and there were a lot of clipping issues with it being a hobbit. This outfit also works very well in Crimson/Red so there are two options for you if you’re not a fan of green.

Back: Bearskin Winter Cloak [Yule Festival Reward] ~Rivendell Green~

Chest: Burnished Hauberk of the Dunland Warlord [Quest Reward – Dunland] ~Rivendell Green~

Hands: Leather Gauntlet’s [Medium Armour smith – Esteldin] ~White~

Feet: Ajokoira Shoes [Forochel crafted or Lotro Store] ~Rivendell Green
